This year, the directors and staff at Langdowns DFK are pushing things to the extreme! As with any good idea, it started over a few drinks, which then, during the course of the evening, evolved into a fantastic idea(!) However, whilst nursing a few sore heads the next morning, this excellent idea inevitably turned into “oh no what have we committed to?!”, and where I say we, I mean Neil Raynsford and Graham Taylor.

Their initial plan of wanting to run the New York Marathon in 2016 had suddenly spiralled into the firm celebrating this iconic year of sport with not one, but a number of gruelling fitness challenges!

As a group of directors, we’ve always been firm believers of the old adage, ‘healthy body, healthy mind’ and not only enjoy a variety of sport (remember our team Triathlon success?) but also recognise the benefits this brings to the workplace, as we rarely take days off through ill health. Therefore, we decided to take our passion for fitness one step further this year, with everyone getting involved at one stage or another, albeit some in a less dynamic way than others, by swapping our suits for sportswear for the launch of our #accountantsfitforbusiness campaign.

Throughout the year, our #accountantsfitforbusiness campaign will consist of a number of our ambitious team participating in numerous sporting and fitness events; starting with the simplest of 5km Park Runs, up to the full Monty, 26 mile New York Marathon, in November. In between, we will also be training for different sporting feats, such as Graeme Lovell’s own Tour de France, which will see him ride one of the stages, while also enjoying wine and good food! We even have James Waters, taking on the challenges of sailing the Indian Ocean… more glamour than testing I think!

And don’t forget the MAMILs amongst us, who will be donning the lycra for the Tour de Test Valley (TdTV), an ardous tour of the Test Valley totalling some 100 miles in a morning. Set up a few years ago, in memory of Nelson Pratt, a keen cyclist himself, it sets itself aside from many sportifs as it has a real fun element to it, which Langdowns believe is key to life and business. We are also pleased to announce that we are one of the main sponsors for this fantastic event.

With all the fun and games, there is some pain to be had. In particular, Neil and Graham, who will be completing a significant amount of training in the lead up to the NY Marathon, whilst raising money for Get Kids Going, a great charity that gives disabled children and young people the opportunity of participating in sport. If you would like to support our directors during this tough challenge, please click here to donate. All money raised will be matched by Langdowns DFK.

When all is said and done, we are #accountantsfitforbusiness and work hard in the office as we do in the gym, it is this that helps give us that edge.
